Coburn Design Build
This residential remodel is located in Boulder, Colorado, just steps from the iconic Chautauqua Park. Working alongside the Coburn Design Build team, I joined the project after schematic design wrapped up and helped develop the design to full construction document level.

As part of a small team, I listened closely to the clients' ideas and incorporated their feedback directly into the drawings, producing the complete CD set including plans, sections, elevations, details, and interior selections. I also helped develop the permit drawings, which were reviewed and approved by the City of Boulder.
One of the most involved design challenges was the fireplace. Strict restrictions on flue placement required many iterations before landing on a solution that was both code compliant and architecturally intentional. The final design places the fireplace at the center of the home with a traditional chimney running along the exterior, giving it a grounded, purposeful presence. The fireplace itself features built-in wood storage and recessed shelving, adding warmth and functionality to the space.

The drawings below show the final fireplace and flue design.

The project also includes a glass porch enclosure I designed in response to the clients' desire for sound privacy from the neighboring yard without sacrificing light or openness. The enclosure mirrors the window language of the existing house, with large glass panels held together by timber beams, creating a space that feels connected to the outdoors while still offering a sense of shelter.
Inside, the family room features decorative beams that accent a vaulted ceiling, giving the space character and a sense of height without feeling heavy.

The open kitchen design complements this with generous windows that flood the space with natural light, making the heart of the home feel airy and inviting. The kitchen elevations are shown below.
I also helped in drawing details to construction level accuracy, ensuring that even the finer elements of the home were thoughtfully considered and clearly documented. A sheet of interior details is shown below.

The project is currently under construction, and it has been a rewarding experience to see the design evolve from drawings into a built reality.
